If you are Pregnant
If you’ve not yet had your flu or COVID-19 vaccines this winter – it’s not too late! Both vaccines are available until the end of March and can be given during any stage of pregnancy. The vaccines are free and the best way to protect you and your unborn baby.
Flu and COVID-19 can lead to complications such as early labour, low birthweight and stillbirth so it is recommended you:
- have the flu vaccine every time you’re pregnant. This is because the flu viruses circulating change each year and the vaccine can help protect you and your developing baby against flu during pregnancy and for at least 3 months after birth.
- have all the recommended doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. This is because you are at increased risk of COVID-19 and some pregnant women have become seriously unwell and have needed hospital treatment.
It is safe to get both vaccines at the same time, but if you would prefer to get these at separate appointments this can be arranged. Vaccination is a choice, it’s important you have the information you need to make an informed decision.
The whooping cough vaccine is also recommended as soon as possible from week 16 of your pregnancy.
Speak to your midwife on 01324 567182 about the vaccines offered during pregnancy. For more information visit www.nhsinform.scot/vaccinesinpregnancy.
