Forth Valley welcomes medical students from four of Scotland’s Medical Schools:
- St Andrews
The students undertake a variety of clinical attachments in Forth Valley
- General Medicine
- General Surgery
- Obstetrics & Gynaecology
- Care of the Elderly
- Otolaryngology & Ophthalmology
- Critical Care & Anaesthesia
Additionally a range of SSC modules are offered.
In addition to specialist teaching from consultants in the chosen specialty all students on placement in Forth Valley will have an opportunity to spend a day in the Scottish Clinical Simulation Centre and, depending on the attachment, a course in basic life support (General Medicine and Care of the Elderly) and an opportunity to spend a day out with a paramedic team (General Surgery).
Students are accommodated in the Junior Doctors Residence on the Falkirk Community Hospital site whilst on attachment. Students are welcome to arrive the night before the attachment commences. The Junior Doctors Residence can be found at the rear of the hospital. Drive past the front of the hospital turn left and left again you will enter a small car park on your left is a cream building which is the Junior Doctors Residence. The keypad code to enter the residence will be emailed to you the week before your attachment. There is a chest of drawers in the hallway and envelopes with your name on, containing your room key will be left in the top drawer.
