Below are some of the organisations that we work in partnership with, delivering our Why Weight service and programmes.
Active Clacks – Find out more about the fantastic opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity in Clackmannanshire. We have a wide range of inclusive programmes including: Active Schools clubs in each school, Sports Development classes for Gymnastics, Swimming, Football and Athletics classes as well as an extensive range of sessions at Firpark Ski Centre.
We also have excellent sports facilities available to book for children and families in our 3 secondary schools Leisure Booking. There are also opportunities available to take part in community sports clubs, you can find more information about this and our partners on ClacksLife.
Active Stirling – Run a range of Kids sport and physical activity classes for children of all ages. The Peak offers a range of sports and facilities, there’s something for everyone to do from taking part in a fitness class, a gym session or a swim, to skating, climbing or a game of racquet sports.
Feel Falkirk – Falkirk Leisure and Culture – Find out more about their Active Schools programme that co-ordinate and deliver a range of different extra-curricular activities in schools. They have a range of Fitness Classes running across Falkirk, as well as a variety of Sports Classes for all different age groups.
Falkirk Foundation are based at Falkirk Football Stadium and they- are committed to supporting local communities through their programmes.
They aim to improve the lives of those they work with through physical activity and education. Falkirk Foundation works in partnership with the Why Weight team, offering a full range of multi sports activities including walking football, boxing, soft archery, mini golf, basketball, hockey, tennis, dodge ball…
Forth Environment Link (FEL) is a Scottish Environmental charity, based in Forth Valley, making it easy for local people to take practical steps towards living well. FEL works closely with NHS Forth Valley staff and patients to improve physical and mental health. We provide access and support to cycling and walking, including electric bike free loans, as well as nutritional advice.
Forth Valley Disability Sport – is leading the development of inclusive sport and physical activity in Forth Valley, providing a range of activities and classes for all types of abilities and ages.
They run a Get Out, Get Active project which provides opportunities for disabled and non-disabled individuals- to become active together through a range of activities. Their activities such as walking groups, cycling and fun fitness sessions are welcoming and open to all, friends, carers and family members can join in too!
REHIS – The Why Weight team offers children, young people and their families a range of food, cooking and nutrition courses, awards and qualifications. These accredited food and health courses are recognised nationally by the hospitality and catering industries. These qualifications can be added to your CV and are a great bonus when applying for a job or a place at college or university. Good for teenagers who might be looking for a part-time job. These accredited food and health courses are recognised nationally by hospitality and catering industries, public/private sector catering and early years sector.
SMS:WhyWeight is an online self-management service by Children’s Health Scotland, that helps children and young people take control of their own health, build their confidence and self-esteem and introduce them to other young people facing similar health challenges. SMS:Connect work in partnership with the Why Weight Team at NHS Forth Valley.
SMS:WhyWeight offer a six week healthy weight programme, online, for children and young people living in Forth Valley. The healthy weight programme is aimed at increasing the confidence and self esteem of children and young people so that they feel able to take control of their own health and well-being and take steps towards positive behavioural changes.
Under The Trees are a charity delivering positive experiences and outdoor learning opportunities to children, young adults and their families throughout Central Scotland.
Under the Trees have secured funding from the Health and Social Care Partnership Fund and are working in partnership with NHS Forth Valley to deliver Woodland Wellbeing Sessions, Woodland Tot Sessions, low pressure cycling opportunities, training and online resources for families to use when heading outdoors. They work outside in local green spaces, parks, woodlands, school and business grounds, in all weather.
Youth Scotland is a national charity for supporting and delivering youth work in the community. They offer quality youth work programmes, information, resources, training and support.
They have 3 different awards that children and young people aged 5+ can be involved in completing – Hi 5 Award, Dynamic Youth Awards (DYA) + Youth Achievement Awards (YAA) – Find out more about their Award Schemes here. You can work towards achieving these awards with support from the Why Weight team.
