NHS Forth Valley Staff Awards 2016
The NHS Forth Valley Staff Awards highlight the hard work, care and commitment of local NHS staff, Serco staff and volunteers across the organisation. They provide an opportunity for colleagues, patients and members of the public to say thanks and show their appreciation.
Award Categories
Top Team Award
This award is for teams which deliver an excellent service and provide a supportive environment which encourages staff to work together to drive forward developments and improvements.
- Winner – Ward A31 , Forth Valley Royal Hospital
- 1st Runner Up – Cardiology Ward, Forth Valley Royal Hospital
- 2nd Runner Up – Reach Falkirk Team, Falkirk Community Hospital
Inspiration Award
This award recognises the innovative and ambitious work undertaken by NHS staff to improve the quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness of patient care in NHS Forth Valley. This could include the introduction of new ways of working, the development of new treatments, the use of new technology, the completion of new research or innovative resource management that has achieved financial savings.
- Winner – Dr Una MacFadyen, Consultant Paediatrician, Forth Valley Royal Hospital
- 1st Runner Up – Ruth Murray, Senior Charge Nurse, Clackmannanshire Community Healthcare Centre
- 2nd Runner Up – Morag Ogilvie, Senior Dietitian, Forth Valley Royal Hospital
Outstanding Care Award
This award gives members of staff, patients and their families the opportunity to nominate a member of staff, service or team who has delivered outstanding care and treatment.
- Winner – Camelon Medical Practice District Nursing Team
- 1st Runner Up – Tricia Young, Staff Nurse, Additional Support Needs, School Nursing Service, Camelon Clinic
- 2nd Runner Up – Day Medicine, Forth Valley Royal Hospital
Volunteer Award
For individuals, organisations, fundraisers or charities who work tirelessly and generously give their free time, enthusiasm and energy to help improve NHS services, facilities and support for patients, visitors and their families.
- Winner – NHS Forth Valley Mental Health Volunteers
- 1st Runner Up – Jean Weir, RVS Cafe, Forth Valley Royal Hospital and Clackmannanshire Community Healthcare Centre
- 2nd Runner Up – Morag Mason, Public Partnership Forum Representative
Innovation Award
This award recognises the innovative and ambitious work undertaken by NHS staff to improve the quality, safety and effectiveness of patient care in Forth Valley. This could be through the introduction of new ways of working, the development of new treatments, the use of new technology or the completion of new research.
- Winner – ALFY Team, Forth Valley Royal Hospital
- 1st Runner Up – Community Pharmacy Development Team
- 2nd Runner Up – Kevin McCloskey, Senior Staff Nurse, Fracture Team, Forth Valley Royal Hospital
Unsung Hero Award
This is the person who does a fantastic job but whose contribution and role often goes unrecognised. Although just doing their normal day-to-day job, this individual’s drive, commitment and support makes a genuine difference to others. This is the type of person who goes the extra mile and is always happy to help others.
- Winner – Nadine Sinclair, Housekeeper, ITU, Forth Valley Royal Hospital
- 1st Runner Up – Fiona Matheson, Administrator, Complex Care, Stenhousemuir Health Centre
- 2nd Runner Up – Nursery Nurses, Ward 8 and Neonatal Unit, Forth Valley Royal Hospital
Chairman’s Award
This is for people who don’t necessarily fit into any of our main award categories but who demonstrate their values and deserve recognition for the contribution to their work.

The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh’s inaugural William Cullen prize is for excellence in service innovation.
