There are many different routes which enable people to start a career within the NHS.
In NHS Forth Valley we aim to offer a variety of opportunities. Some will help individuals make career choices by providing an insight into the various roles within our organisation and others will support people to develop knowledge and skills that may assist them into future employment.
School Placements & Work Experience
In most schools, you will be offered the opportunity to do a week of work experience in S3 or S4. Some schools offer longer periods of work experience, for example, extended work placements in S5 and S6. If you have a particular NHS job in mind, discuss this as soon as you can with your guidance teacher and contact us at fv.school-placement-requests@nhs.scot to request a suitable placement.
Nursing & Midwifery Student Placement Requests
Anyone interested in a career in nursing or midwifery should contact a university or college in the first instance to find out more about the different programmes and training options available. Further information is available on the nursing section of the NHS Scotland careers website.
Placements are co-ordinated and agreed between NHS Forth Valley and a number of universities across Scotland which offer nursing and midwifery courses.
Medical Student Placement Requests
National and International medical students wishing to apply for an elective attachment/placement should contact our undergraduate team at fv.undergraduatemedicaleducation@nhs.scot providing details of your university, year of study, placement specialty and preferred dates for proposed placement.
Clinical Attachment Requests
Any queries or requests regarding clinical attachments to be sent to fv.medicalworkforcerecruitment@nhs.scot. Applicants should also send a copy of their CV and provide a covering letter stating which specialty(ies) they wish to be considered for.
