Sector based work academy programmes
NHS Forth Valley delivers a range of programmes offering training and/or work experience in partnership with our Local Authority Employability Services and the Job Centre. To find out what programmes are available in your area speak to your Job Centre Work Coach or our Local Employability Partners.

Administration Academy – Clackmannanshire
This is an education and industry placement programme delivered in Partnership with Forth Valley College, NHS Forth College and Clackmannanshire Works that combines classroom learning with hands-on work experience in an NHS workplace. This programme is part funded by The Scottish Government Bringing Hope Building Futures programme and open to Parents resident in the Clackmannanshire Council Area.
Adult workplace observation
We may be able to support requests for shadowing or observation days to support a college or university programme of study for Forth Valley residents or those students attending Forth Valley College or the University of Stirling.
Availability is limited and we may not be able to accommodate all requests.
Requests for work shadowing or observation days should be submitted by email to fv.we@nhs.scot, providing:
- college or university name
- year of study
- placement specialty
- preferred dates
Earn as you learn programmes
No One Left Behind is a Scottish Government Strategy designed to help people prepare for employment, training, education and/or volunteering. Support is offered through our Employability Partners to individuals regardless of age or background. This includes people with a disability, people with convictions, care-experienced young people, single parents, minority ethnic people, and people living in the most deprived areas in Scotland.

Young people aged 16 To 29
These programmes are delivered as part of our commitment to Developing the Young Workforce and are designed to support young people into employment. We also offer a Guaranteed Interview scheme to all programme applicants who are Care Experienced or Disabled.
Modern apprenticeships
We currently offer Modern Apprenticeship programmes delivered in partnership with Forth Valley College in the Business Administration at SCQF 5 and 6 and Healthcare Support (Clinical) Framework at SCQF Level 7.

Gateway to NHS careers
The 18-week Gateway to Healthcare Careers programme is delivered by NHS Forth Valley in partnership with Falkirk Council and Positive Qualities – a local training organisation. The participants complete an initial 10-week period of classroom-based learning and volunteer placements in a range of services and departments across Forth Valley Royal Hospital before completing the NHS Forth Valley Foundation Skills for Healthcare Support Workers Programme which includes practical ward-based placements. Eligible candidates will receive support with travel and a Training Allowance.

Other programmes
NHS demonstrator programme
NHS Forth Valley Demonstrator Programme is a paid placement opportunity funded by Scottish Government and delivered in Partnership with Local Authority Employability Teams in the Forth Valley Board Area.
The Programme offers 6 months paid placement for up to 30 hours per week in a range of role supporting unemployed/low-income Forth Valley Board Area residents to learn new skills and gain valuable work experience. Please contact your Local Employability Partnership for more information and eligibility criteria.
Ward assistant programme
This programme is delivered in partnership with Forth Valley College and Local Employability Partnerships, and part funded by the Scottish Government Bringing Hope Building Futures. This is a 12-month paid education and work experience programme designed to help parents start a career in Health or Social Care. Participants will complete an SVQ 2 (SCQF Level 6) in Health and Social Care delivered by Forth Valley College and gain practical experience as a Ward Assistant within NHS Forth Valley hospital wards. The programme is delivered during school hours, making it an excellent opportunity for parents looking to return to work, gain a qualification or start a new career.
