Doctor Dressed for Highland Success in Great Scottish Run World Record Attempt

An NHS Forth Valley doctor ‘dressed for success’ to take on Guinness World Record attempt in full Highland attire at this year’s Great Scottish Run.

Forth Valley Royal Hospital Consultant Anaesthetist, Dr Ewan Jack, took on the challenge to raise funds for research into motor neurone disease (MND) for late rugby legend Doddie Weir’s charity My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and The Brain Tumour Charity.

He previously first came to international attention at the 2011 Edinburgh marathon when he set a Guinness World Record for fastest man dressed as a doctor, clocking up an impressive time of 2 hours 53 mins 11 sec, bettering the previous record by 1 hour 22 minutes and 58 seconds.

However, his most challenge saw Ewan attempt the fastest half marathon in full Highland dress – which includes a suit jacket, kilt and sporran for the race – at the 2024 Great Scottish Run on 6th October 2024. Although Ewan narrowly missed out on the world record, which still stands at 1 hour 28 minutes and 46 seconds, he finished in an incredible 1 hour 32 minutes 23 seconds and raised more than £11,000 for his two chosen charities.

Ewan said: “I wanted to raise money for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation as my fantastic older brother Alex died some years ago of motor neurone disease when he was just 42 and recently, a colleague has been diagnosed with a brain tumour so I wanted to run for The Brain Tumour Charity as well.

Ewan said: “It was a tough day at the outdoor office to be sure. I was well on track for the record until about mile eight. Although I missed out on the record, I raised lots of cash, raised awareness of two conditions and put lots of smiles on lots of folks faces.”
