DVLA
It is a legal requirement that you inform the DVLA & your car insurance that you have started insulin:
- DVLA website
- Tel: 0300 790 6806
It is very important that you follow the DVLA Driving rules once taking insulin.
Hypos
Episodes of hypoglycaemia also known as a ‘hypo’ (low blood glucose readings) may occur when on insulin.
You can read further information on what to do if you have a hypo or watch a video.
If you are having frequent hypos then you may be taking too much insulin and need to reduce your dose. If you are unsure what to do you can contact us to discuss.
Food
What you eat can affect your blood glucose readings.
Please see the information sheet for information on food and Type 2 diabetes.
If you feel you require further dietary support then you may contact the Diabetes Dietitians by emailing fv.fvdiabetesdietitians@nhs.scot on phoning 01324 566626.
