General surgeries are carried out in the theatre suite, located within Forth Valley Royal Hospital. These procedures may require either a day case admission or an overnight stay, depending on the complexity and recovery needs.
Patients undergoing general surgery are cared for by multidisciplinary teams of consultants, anaesthetists, nurses, and allied health professionals.
Day Surgery
Day surgery is provided within the Ambulatory Care Unit, situated on the first floor of the hospital, directly adjacent to the theatre suite. This bright and spacious area includes:
- 16 trolley spaces and 10 recliner chairs for day case patients
- 4 treatment rooms for procedures under local anaesthetic (e.g. minor operations, vasectomies)
- 14 single rooms for patients who may require an overnight stay following day surgery
Day surgery procedures are performed by healthcare professionals from various specialties, and many minor operations are carried out by advanced nurse practitioners.
