Food for In-patients
NHS Forth Valley, along with our partners Serco, aim to provide food that is nutritionally suitable for all patients.
Our menus are coded to show suitability for the following needs (as per the NHS Scotland Food in Hospitals Standards):
- Energy Dense (ED)
- Healthy Eating (HE)
- Vegetarian (V)
- Easy Chew (EC)
The chefs and catering staff are committed to providing you with a quality service. The majority of the food within our menu is prepared and cooked on the premises. Where possible, fresh ingredients are used from quality approved suppliers.
On admission to a ward, patients should let nursing staff know of any special dietary needs. The Ward Housekeepers or relevant staff will then ask patients for their choice of meal from the menus.
If a special diet is required for medical, cultural or personal reasons (including allergen content of meals), this information will be made available to help patients make suitable choices from the menu.
Of note we also have a bespoke children’s ward menu & vegan menu in an ‘a la carte’ format.
John’s Campaign
NHS Forth Valley supports John’s Campaign. This is a campaign which supports the right of people with dementia in hospital to be supported by their family or carers. Therefore, when it is felt appropriate, the catering department can provide a family member/carer with a meal, whilst they are supporting a patient to eat. John’s Campaign (johnscampaign.org.uk)
