At NHS Forth Valley we feel it is important that our staff can work in a safe environment and be part of a culture that is open, honest and transparent and individuals are given support to speak up if they have any concerns.
We want people to have the confidence to raise concerns and know that they will be listened to and any issues or concerns will be addressed, using policies or procedures that are fair and objective.
It is also vitally important that we encourage and act on feedback. This ensures that we are delivering the best possible services and standards of care that meet the needs of local patients and their families. It also gives staff assurance and confidence that what they say really does matter and can make a difference.
In the first instance, we encourage people to speak with their line manager or clinical lead, if able to do so. Alternatively, there are several other options available to you. These include speaking with your HR Manager, Staff Side Representative, Occupational Health Advisor or one of our local Speak Up Advocates (see details below).
Confidential service
The Speak Up Team provides a confidential, impartial service where NHS Forth Valley employees can discuss concerns in a safe space or speak to someone in confidence if you just need some support, advice or information and aren’t sure who to speak to. If you wish to confidentially contact us, please call 07815 478 117 or email fv.speakup@nhs.scot. Messages and emails are only accessible to the local Speak Up Ambassador.
Examples of concerns could include:
- Patient Care
- Safety concerns
- Discrimination
- Training
- Fraud
- Bullying
Speak Up Ambassador
The Speak Up Ambassador coordinates and supervises the Speak Up service. They aim to promote an open, honest and responsible culture where staff are supported to raise concerns. They also work to identify and address barriers that may prevent concerns being raised. The Speak Up Ambassador also acts as a confidential contact for any concerns raised through the formal Whistleblowing procedures which are in place in all NHS Boards across Scotland.
Speak Up Advocates
The Speak Up Advocates support staff in speaking up. They explore concerns with individuals in a confidential meeting and can help discuss and signpost you to the different routes and options available for raising them. Meetings can be face-to-face or virtual. If you wish, an advocate can also support you to link with a relevant manager to raise your concern.
