Cycling team raises over £20,000 for charity

Stephen Donovan, Serco’s Estates Maintenance Officer at Forth Valley Royal Hospital led a team of ten other cyclists in a 500 mile ride across the UK, raising over £20,000 for their chosen charities.

The group set off on their six-day journey, dubbed ‘Shore to Shoreditch’, from The Shore Restaurant, Carronshore in Falkirk, Scotland on 2 July and finished their journey at Falkirk Street in Shoreditch, London.

Luckily the spirits of the cycling group remained as high as some of the hills they had to tackle in the first three days, as they scaled altitudes of over 7,000 feet while battling through horrendous weather, and for the final stage they enjoyed near perfect conditions.

The event aimed to raise as much money as possible for each team member’s chosen charity and collectively the group raised over £20,000. Stephen chose to cycle for The Beatson Cancer Charity in Glasgow, while others supported charities such as The Glasgow Children’s Hospital and Sparks

Children’s Medical Research

Stephen said of his adventure: “I’m delighted with the success of our journey and with the fantastic sum we managed to raise for our chosen charities. I would like to thank everyone who has donated so far for their generosity and to our support team for their amazing effort. We made some great friends along the way as well as plenty of memories that will last a life time. Now it’s time to get the maps out and plan Shore to Shoreditch part two!”
