Below is an overview of the key professionals who regularly work within our multidisciplinary team. This outlines each role and their specific contributions to the service. Individuals may work with all these professionals or just a few, depending on their unique rehabilitation needs.
Rehabilitation Nurses
Rehabilitation nursing is a specialised area of nursing that focuses on helping individuals regain their independence and achieve their highest level of function. It involves a multifaceted approach that includes medical care, emotional support, practical assistance, and education for both individuals and their families.
Physiotherapists
Physiotherapists predominantly look at the physical side of your rehabilitation. They look at ways to improve your movement, strength, balance and function using facilitation techniques, exercises and education. They take a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, including lifestyle and hobbies and will incorporate these into your rehabilitation.
Speech and Language Therapists
Speech and Language Therapists support individuals with their communication, helping them express themselves and understand others. They use personalised therapy plans to tailor rehabilitation to the individual’s communication demands and role in society. They also assess and manage swallowing difficulties, promoting independence and quality of life.
Occupational Therapists
The goal of the Occupational Therapists is to help individuals regain as much independence as possible and improve their ability to perform meaningful activities (occupations) across all areas of life. These activities can include, but are not limited to, self-care, domestic tasks, leisure pursuits, community participation, and returning to work.
Therapy Assistant Practitioners
Therapy assistant practitioners work under the supervision of qualified therapists and play a vital role in supporting individuals throughout their rehab journey. They collaborate with all members of the multidisciplinary team to help implement therapy plans and assist individuals with a range of tasks aimed at improving function, independence, and quality of life.
Dietitians
Dietitians assess nutritional needs and develop personalised dietary plans to support health, recovery, and well-being. They educate individuals on healthy eating, manage medical conditions through nutrition, and work closely with the multidisciplinary team to optimise outcomes across the rehabilitation process.
Clinical Psychologists
Clinical Psychologists support individuals with emotional, cognitive, and behavioural difficulties. They use psychological assessments and evidence-based therapies to help manage mental health conditions, improve coping strategies, and enhance overall well-being. They play a vital role in holistic rehabilitation and recovery.
