If you are living in Forth Valley and have been affected by cancer, our Macmillan One to One service is here to help you live life as fully as possible.
Why use our service?
Cancer doesn’t just affect your physical wellbeing, it can impact every aspect of your life and the lives of those around you.
Knowing where to turn for support isn’t always easy because you may feel overwhelmed by all the things that come with a cancer diagnosis.
The Macmillan One to One Service is here to help people affected by cancer get the support they need, whether it’s financial, emotional, medical or practical.
What is Macmillan One-to-One?
We are a free, community-based service. We will listen to your concerns and help you access the support you need. Our Link Workers can help with a wide range of personal, practical and emotional needs. Our Clinical Nurse Specialists can complete a nursing assessment and provide interventions based on need.
Some of the ways we can help include:
- Helping you find answers to the questions you have about your cancer and treatment.
- Putting you in touch with money and benefits advisers.
- Securing practical support, for example, Care in the Home.
- Connecting you with specialist, community-based wellbeing such as Maggie’s, Carers Centre, Macmillan Money Matters.
- Comprehensive support across all settings, hospital, home and community.
How we can help
We help anyone affected by cancer. This includes when you have cancer and when you care for someone with cancer, either as a family member or a friend.
Our service is here to help connect you to supportive care and resources in your local area.
Our Macmillan One to One team will listen to your concerns and find out what matters most to you. We can discuss your options together and guide you towards the support you need. Depending on what you need and want, we can offer support, share information and make referrals to the right services for you.
We provide support over the phone, face to face in the local community and sometimes in your own home or online via video calls.
How does it work?
A member of our Macmillan One to One team will have a conversation with you about the concerns that matter to you. This can range from money, fatigue, physical concerns, practical things like housework and getting about through to your emotional wellbeing.
Our team can be your point of contact to access the support you need.
What can I expect
You can expect a supportive, welcoming and personalised approach which is focussed on you. When you contact us, we will take some basic information and give a brief explanation of what we do to help you decide if the service is right for you.
We’ll then arrange for you to meet a someone from our Macmillan One to One team – appointments are usually arranged within 1-2 weeks of initial contact.
We’ll complete a Holistic Needs Assessment with you and use this to discuss your concerns, priorities and needs and then create an action plan with you.
We can then make any referrals to other services and organisations on your behalf, provide you with information and advice and check back in with you at agreed times.
