The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Care is seeking to appoint three Non-Executive Board Members to join the Board of NHS Forth Valley.

These rewarding and influential appointments provide an opportunity to help shape the delivery of healthcare across the area and ensure the Board continues to deliver safe, effective and person-centred healthcare services.

Neena Mahal, Chair of NHS Forth Valley, said: “This is an important opportunity to join the Board at a time of significant change for healthcare and wider public services across Scotland as the Programme for Government sets out plans to replace the current 14 territorial Health Boards with two new Strategic Health Boards. Non-Executive Board members will therefore be able to help shape future plans during the transition period, while ensuring NHS Forth Valley maintains its focus on delivering and improving services for our local communities.

Above all, we are looking for people who are passionate about improving health outcomes and making a positive difference for the people of Forth Valley.

“As we respond to growing demand for services, financial pressures and the need to transform how care is delivered, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in a number of key areas. These include strategic leadership, transformation and change, strategic finance and governance experience or experience of improving population health, reducing health inequalities and understanding the needs of local communities.”

Non-Executive Board members work closely with NHS Forth Valley’s Senior Leadership Team and staff across the organisation and play a key role in setting the Board’s strategic direction, monitoring and reviewing performance, managing and overseeing risk, creating the right culture and, as ambassadors of the Board, engaging widely with staff, partner organisations and other key stakeholders. Non-Executive Board members must therefore be able to think strategically and creatively, have independent views, embody NHS Scotland’s values and have the ability to challenge in a constructive manner.

The appointments, which are remunerated, will require a minimum commitment of an average of eight hours over the course of a week to contribute to the work of the Board. This includes participation in Board meetings and governance committees and the Integration Joint Boards of the two local Health and Social Care Partnerships.
