Huge congratulations to Kay Baxter, Dietetic Clinical Lead for Inpatient Services and local dietetic students who won the overall TRANSFER Award at the National AHP Quality Improvement Network TREE awards.

The awards aim to celebrate and showcase the outstanding quality improvement work carried out by AHPs, support workforce, learners, and educators across the UK.

Kay’s project, which was carried out with a number of dietetic students during their placements, identified a gap in dietary information for patients experiencing symptoms and weight loss from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). They also highlighted that this could be addressed by adding additional information and advice to the dietetic section on the NHS Forth Valley website.

The project was presented to the Dietetic Department and Quality Improvement team in week 11 of their placements and was a great example of how quality improvement capacity and capability can be developed in the wider team, including future generations of dieticians.

This project-based placement was very well received by the dietetic students, QI advisor and dietetic colleagues and there are plans to use model again for future final year students both within inpatient and MSK Physiotherapy services.
