Health and Wellbeing Event – Living With and Beyond Cancer
If you are living with cancer, NHS Forth Valley is here to help and, together with Macmillan Cancer Support, will be holding a Health and Wellbeing Event in Falkirk Golf Club, 136 Stirling Road, Falkirk FK2 7YP.
The event – which will be held on Thursday 29th August 2019 between 10:15am and 2.45pm – is aimed at people who have finished treatment or are continuing to be monitored. Anyone interested in attending the event should contact the Macmillan One-to-One Team on 01324 832921 or by email to fv-uhb.maconesupport@nhs.net Places are limited.
Partners, family members and friends are also welcome to attend the event, which will include talks from healthcare professionals including how to manage tiredness, getting the most out of appointments and psychological wellbeing. A buffet lunch will be provided and information stands will provide details on sources of advice and support. There will also be the opportunity to ask questions.
Dr Susie Porteous, Macmillan Consultant Clinical Psychologist for NHS Forth Valley, said: “We know from patients that cancer poses many challenges. When someone has been diagnosed with cancer they have to adjust to many changes and this means that patients and those close to them often experience strong emotions and worries. When treatment finishes and the practicalities of treatment are over, people can also be surprised if they don’t feel ‘back to normal.’
“Similarly, people who are living with active cancer may be coping with a wide range of physical and emotional problems. The aim of this event is to therefore to help people living with and beyond cancer make sense of their experience and share details of advice and support to help manage any ongoing concerns.”
