The Orthopaedic Team
In order to provide a quality service with short waiting times we must make full use of our highly skilled multidisciplinary team. As well as Consultants, Registrars and House Officers, who are all doctors, the team also consists of several Extended Scope Practitioner Physiotherapists (ESPs), Arthroplasty nurses and a GP specialist.
The ESPs, Arthroplasty nurses and GP specialist are all very experienced clinicians who are trained in the field of orthopaedics. They work with a consultant to ensure the best management and outcome for all patients.
Arthroplasy Nurses now see most patients for all follow up appointments after joint replacement surgery.
If you are attending an orthopaedic appointment, you will see the most appropriate member of the team for your particular problem. This is decided on reading your referral letter. You may see more than one member of the team if that is necessary. Many joint or soft tissue problems don’t require surgery and can be dealt with equally well by a another team member.
Services
Forth Valley Orthopaedic Service currently deals with over 10,000 elective and trauma referrals every year. The service is led by nine orthopaedic consultants. They work together with other members of the orthopaedic team to provide outpatient services at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.
