What is an Orthotist?
An Orthotist is an allied health professional who has a degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics. All Orthotists are registered with the Health and Care professions council (HCPC), a body which regulates registered clinicians to protect the public.
The role of the Orthotist is to assess biomechanical issues, diagnose and if appropriate prescribe a suitable orthosis. An orthosis is an externally applied brace. It may also be known as a splint or device. An orthosis is used to prevent deformity, stabilise joints, improve gait and function and/or relieve pain.
As part of our treatment plan, we provide a range of orthoses including:
- Footwear
- Insoles
- Ankle foot orthosis
- Ankle braces
- Knee braces
- Compression stocking for DVT patients
- Hip dislocation braces
- Spinal braces/supports
- Collars
- Upper limb orthosis
