Do you have diabetes or are you at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes?
These 2-hour information sessions provide information on what diabetes is and can help you set personal goals and make positive lifestyle changes, as well as offering support to help you self-manage your condition.
Our group sessions take place at variable venues throughout Forth Valley and some sessions are delivered online.
- Type 2 Diabetes Group (For people diagnosed with Diabetes) – Typically run monthly
- Pre-Diabetes Group (For people at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes) – Typically run monthly

Type 2 Diabetes Explained – Group Sessions
Have you been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes?
This programme is delivered over 4 sessions, each session is 2 hours long. The sessions will support you make healthier lifestyle choices and self-manage your diabetes. In small groups, you will have the opportunity to talk about living with diabetes, in a relaxed and friendly way. You are welcome to bring along a friend or family member to the sessions.

- Week 1: Diabetes Explained
Find out what happens to your body when you have diabetes, about the tests that your GP will do and why. - Week 2: Carbohydrate and Reading Food Labels Explained
Learn about how carbohydrates (starch and sugar) affect your diabetes control. Also learn what to look for when reading food labels. - Week 3: Managing your Weight Explained
Talk about how to manage your weight and how losing weight and being more active improves diabetes control. - Week 4: Fats and Medicines Explained, and what next?
Learn the latest about fat, talk about the medicines you are on to keep healthy.

Type 2 Diabetes Remission Programme (2 year programme)
This programme involves 3 key stages:
- Stage 1 (12 Weeks): Total Diet Replacement
All food and meals will be replaced with 4 nutritionally complete soups and shakes. - Stage 2 (12 weeks): Food Reintroduction
You will gradually reduce your soups and shakes and re-introduce calorie controlled meals, one at a time. - Stage 3 (18 months): Weight Loss Maintenance
We will help you plan what changes you need to have in place to help you maintain your new lower weight.
Target weight loss can be at least 15kg (2.5 stone or more) – As long as you follow the programme over the full 2 year period.
This programme is suitable for adults aged 18 – 65 years, who meet the following criteria:
- Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in the past 6 years
- Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or above – Find out more about BMI and access the BMI Calculator
- Currently not prescribed insulin to treat your diabetes
- Currently not pregnant or breast-feeding
Before starting on this programme – we will speak to your GP about your diabetes management and you may need to get a blood test.
