Update on Semaglutide (Wegovy®) – October 2023
This medication has now been approved by the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) to support weight management in NHS Scotland.
All NHS Boards across Scotland are now developing local clinical pathways to safely support people who are eligible for this new medication. When this pathway has been agreed in NHS Forth Valley we will be able to accept appropriate referrals.
Local healthcare professionals will be able to advise when these clinical pathways have been agreed and the medication has been added to NHS Forth Valley’s drug formulary. This webpage will also be updated to confirm when the pathway has been finalised and referrals can be accepted.
In the meantime, further information, support and advice on weight management can be found here.
Weight loss not only can improve many health conditions but also your general wellbeing. Successful weight management is most likely to happen when we have our own clear reasons for wanting to take action.
Often people find it helpful to take some time to think about everything happening in their life and how this affects their ability to make lifestyle changes. If you have money concerns, are experiencing health issues, stress, anxiety, sleeplessness or family worries; these can be real barriers to focusing on your own health needs.
If you are ready to commit to managing your weight, our Adult Weight Management team can help support you to make appropriate changes to achieve a new lower weight.
Information on the weight management programmes we offer can be found below.
- If you have decided you would like to speak to someone about managing your weight, you can complete this request for help form. We’ll arrange an appointment to discuss your needs with one of our Specialist Dietitians. Together, you’ll decide which support is best suited to your needs.

We can organise interpreters for those who require BSL, or if your first language is not English.
We also offer support to those living with, or at risk of Type 2 Diabetes. The Specialist Weight Management Dietitians can refer you to one of these programmes.
