Children in Forth Valley requiring assessment for and provision of wheelchair equipment are assessed by specialist staff from WESTMARC, Southern General Hospital.
Satellite clinics are held locally by WESTMARC staff in Stirling Health & Care Village.
Children aged between 2-16 years of age with long term mobility issues can be referred by a health professional who knows them i.e. GP, Health visitor, physiotherapist/occupational therapist.
Once the referral has been received the child will be assessed in Stirling Health & Care Village by either
- a physiotherapist: for children who require minimal to moderate support eg. Firm seat/back support. Or
- a bioengineer: more complex postural supportis required e.g. Head, trunk supports.
Areas not covered
It should be noted that some areas of Forth Valley are not covered by Westmarc. They include Dunblane, Doune, Callander,Strathyre, Killin, Crianlarich, Tynedrum, Thornhill, Port of Menteith and Aberfoyle.

FAQs
What if my child only needs a wheelchair for a short time?
If your child is recovering from an illness or a broken bone then WESTMARC are unable to provide wheelchairs/buggies for short term loan.

Will weather protection be supplied?
Weather protection e.g. rain canopy, will not normally be supplied. This is considered to be the responsibility of carers.

Can a twin buggy be supplied?
Twin buggies may be issued on the rare occasions they are required providing at least one of the children has a disability which gives them eligibility.
In such cases the needs of the disabled child take precedence for determining the appropriate prescription.
