Update on Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC)
In July 2023, the Scottish Government confirmed that a desktop survey of the NHS Scotland estate had identified a number of NHS buildings across Scotland that may potentially contain RAAC, based on their age and construction.
NHS Forth Valley had previously commissioned an external surveyor to carry out site inspections and investigations, which did not identify RAAC in most properties originally surveyed. Further surveys are being carried out across Scotland as part of a national survey programme coordinated by NHS Scotland Assure.

The RAAC identified is in good condition and currently poses no risk to patients or staff. A management plan is in place, which includes regular planned inspections and checks to ensure the situation is closely monitored on an ongoing basis.
