State Of The Art Simulation Centre Highlighted At Local Meeting

Local people across Clackmannanshire will have the chance to find out more about a national training centre for clinical staff at a public meeting at 7pm on Wednesday 8th February 2017 in Sauchie Community Hall, Mar Place Alloa.

Organised by Clackmannanshire Public Partnership Forum, those attending the meeting, will hear about the state-of-the-art Scottish Centre for Simulation and Clinical Human Factors, which is based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. The Centre provides training for around 1,000 clinical staff from across the country and is the only high-fidelity centre of its type in Scotland.

It is equipped with two operating theatres and an inpatient ward which have two-way mirrors so that trainers can constantly monitor performance. Clinical staff can practice their skills on specialist robotic mannequins including one which can respond to anaesthetic gases and ‘answer’ questions to help medical staff reach the right decisions. Another robot has a ‘heartbeat’ and can open and close his eyes. There is also a baby, a child and a pregnant female mannequin which are used for training medical, midwifery and nursing staff.

Those attending the meeting will also get the chance to learn about life-saving skills with NHS Forth Valley’s Lead Resuscitation Officer. Practical advice will be offered and attendees will find out how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator.

Anyone who requires crèche facilities or an interpreter should contact Jessie-Anne Malcolm, NHS Forth Valley’s PPF Co-ordinator, on 01324 614660 or e-mail Jessie.malcolm@nhs.net
