Vaccinations for Young People
Vaccinations for S3 Pupils – January to February
From January to the end of February, all young people in S3 (around 14 years old) will be offered:
These vaccines are part of the school-based immunisation programme and will be given by the local NHS immunisation team.
Your school will provide details of when vaccination sessions will take place.
Consent forms have been sent to all eligible pupils. Please sign and return these to your school as soon as possible.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination
From the end of February to the end of March, the HPV vaccine is delivered in schools and offered to every S1 pupil (aged 11 – 13).
Home Educated Children
Home educated children and young people and anyone not attending mainstream education are also eligible for childhood vaccinations. Vaccinations can be arranged by contacting our local vaccination team on 0800 130 3120 or email fv.vaccinationenquiries@nhs.scot
Flu Vaccine
The flu vaccine is given once a year, usually between September and December. Flu viruses are constantly changing, so a different vaccine is made every year to give the best protection.
Primary and Secondary School Pupils
All primary and secondary school pupils are offered the vaccine in school in the form of a nasal spray. Children are given a letter to take home with a letter, leaflet and consent form.
Parents are asked to complete the consent form and send it back to school with their child (even if you do not want your child to receive the vaccine) as children can only be given vaccines if parents or carers have completed, signed and returned their child’s consent form.
Flu Drop-in Clinics
If your child missed their flu vaccination at school, they can now attend a drop-in clinic (no appointment needed).
