There are a number of organisations and groups that may be of help and interest.
Diabetes UK
Diabetes UK are a nationwide charity. They provide information on all forms of diabetes, as well as a local support groups, Type 1 events, online Learning Zone, and even insurance. They offer a wide variety of support.
MyDiabetesMyWay
A website managed through NHS Scotland with lots of information from new diagnosis onwards. There are also e-learning resources to help in learning and revising aspects of diabetes management.
Forth Valley Type 1 Families Facebook Group
A group of local families who have children with Diabetes and offer peer support.
SMS:Connect
This programme is run by Children’s Health Scotland, a Scottish Charity. It offers online self-management programmes: one for children aged 10-12, and one for young people aged 13-17. It is not diabetes specific, but for young people with any longer term health condition. The feedback has been great, with young people improving their confidence through the programme.
Digibete
DigiBete is a video platform and app, and is a one-stop-shop for young people’s diabetes management. It is a social enterprise funded by NHS England with all content clinically approved by the Diabetes Team at Leeds Children’s Hospital. It offers lots of resources and information for all age groups.
