The Children’s Diabetes Team looks after children up to the age of 16 years. After the age of 14 years, we will invite you to come to our Young Person clinic for some of your appointments.
At this clinic, you will be seen by either an Adult Diabetes Doctor and a Children’s Diabetes Nurse or a Children’s Diabetes Doctor and an Adult Diabetes Nurse.
The format of the clinic is otherwise much the same, with the ability to raise any concerns, a review of your numbers and changes to settings and doses as required.
We also speak about issues which are more specific to adolescents, such as exercise, exams, driving and safety around alcohol.
After the age of 16 years, the adult team take over your care in the Young Adult Clinic, which is specifically for young people up to the age of 25 years.
