The Infection Prevention and Control Advisory Service is primarily based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital and provides an area-wide service across Forth Valley.
Services
The Infection Prevention and Control Service aims to reduce the spread of healthcare-associated infections.
This includes developing and maintaining policies in line with national legislation and best practice, raising awareness of infection control risks, and promoting a culture where infection prevention is everyone’s responsibility.

National Infection Prevention and Control Manual
The NHS Scotland National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM) was first published on 13 January 2012 by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO (2012)) and updated on 17 May 2012 (CNO (2012) update).
The NIPCM provides infection prevention and control (IPC) guidance for all care settings and is recognised as best practice across Scotland.
Assurance and accountability framework
The Infection Prevention Workforce: Strategic Plan 2022–2024 (Scottish Government) recognises that all health and social care staff play a key role in preventing the spread of infection, and that IPC is everyone’s responsibility.
