The Why Weight Programme helps support children, young people and their families work towards a healthier weight. We engage and work with families to explore what help and support they are looking for.
We offer a range of practical programs looking at well-being, activity and nutrition and aim to engage families in practical work to support behaviour change.
Our Why Weight – Child Healthy Weight Service accepts self-referrals from families with children and young people aged up to 18 years of age, with higher weight who would like to make changes and work towards a healthier weight.
If you are a parent, carer or young person who would like to self-refer into our Why Weight Programme or if you are a member of staff, healthcare professional or work in social care and would like more information on how to refer individuals to the Why Weight Programme, then please contact us.
Cooking at Home Challenge
The Child Healthy Weight team support and encourage children and their families to take part in Cooking At Home Challenges. The challenge is to make 1 main meal once a week, for 6 weeks.
It’s a great way for young people to gain confidence and learn new cooking skills, as well as providing an opportunity for individuals to try new foods and dishes, as well as eating meals together.
Below are some of the recipes and instruction sheets that you will need to take part in the Cooking At Home Challenge:
