Cancer and Physical Activity
Being physically active before, during, and after cancer treatment — often called cancer prehabilitation (prehab) and rehabilitation (rehab) — can help improve strength, reduce treatment side effects, boost mood, and support recovery. You don’t need to run or join a gym — even light activity, like walking or gentle exercises at home, can make a real difference.
There are local programmes to help you get started safely, at your own pace. You may also find other parts of our website helpful — such as the Getting Active in your Area section (which includes free walking groups) or the Strength and Balance section. These can be a good way to ease back into activity in a way that works for you.
Maggie’s Forth Valley: If you or someone you care about has been diagnosed with cancer, Maggie’s Forth Valley can help. All of our services are free. You can drop into the Centre any time between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Activities are available online or in person.
