Home Glaucoma Monitoring
Our Home Glaucoma Monitoring Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) challenge went live on 6th March 2023.
The aim of the challenge is to develop innovative solutions focused on home (or near-patient) glaucoma monitoring to better identify patients at risk of losing vision and to reduce the individual and wider costs and impact of sight loss across our communities. This will include home tonometry, home assessment of visual function and potentially optic disc imaging.
Successful companies (along with their respective test bed) for Phase 1 are:
- City University of London (NHS Lothian)
- PeriVision (NHS Forth Valley)
- Optonet (NHS Forth Valley)
Timeline
The SBRI programme offers an exciting opportunity for businesses, especially early-stage companies, to develop and demonstrate their new ideas.
Phase 1 focuses on proving the scientific, technical and commercial feasibility of the the companies solutions, not all selected will continue to the next phase.
In Phase 2, a project prototype will be created by each company. If the prototype is successful, the company is then able to commercialise the solution and offer it to government departments and other public sector organisations through the normal procurement process.
