Vaccinations for Young People
Flu Vaccine
The flu vaccine is given once a year, usually between September and December. Flu viruses are constantly changing, so a different vaccine is made every year to give the best protection.
Primary and Secondary School Pupils
All primary and secondary school pupils are offered the vaccine in school in the form of a nasal spray. Children are given a letter to take home with a letter, leaflet and consent form.
Parents are asked to complete the consent form and send it back to school with their child (even if you do not want your child to receive the vaccine) as children can only be given vaccines if parents or carers have completed, signed and returned their child’s consent form.
Home Educated Children
Home educated children and young people and anyone not attending mainstream education are also eligible for the flu vaccine and other childhood vaccinations. Vaccinations can be arranged by contacting our local vaccination team on 0800 130 3120 or email fv.vaccinationenquiries@nhs.scot
