Stopping smoking during your hospital stay
All NHS Forth Valley premises and grounds are smoke-free, and this includes e-cigarettes. Patients who are admitted to Forth Valley Royal Hospital can be supplied with Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) to reduce withdrawal symptoms and help you to abstain from smoking when staying in a healthcare environment.
This provides an ideal opportunity to quit smoking for good.
Smoking greatly increases risk of complications after surgery and patients who are coming to hospital for an operation and wish to stop smoking beforehand, to reduce risks and aid recovery, can refer themselves or be referred for support, prior to admission.
Your healthcare professional or support worker can refer you for continued support, or you can refer yourself using the form above.
Taking your smoking outside – or even better stopping, helps protect you and your family
Smoke lingers in the air for 5 hours after the cigarette has been smoked, and can seep invisibly into or out of open windows and doors.
Having a smoke-free home means everyone in the household, including pets, are safe from over 4000 toxins.

E-cigarettes/vapes
Although not licensed for medicinal use, e-cigarettes may help some people stop using tobacco.
Dual use of tobacco and an e-cigarette is not recommended and people should switch completely to e-cigarettes to reduce harms to health from tobacco, although long-term effects of e-cigarette use are still unknown.
Your Stop Smoking Advisor in Forth Valley will support you through a quit if you choose to use an e-cigarette to help you, but can only provide clean safe nicotine in the form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).
