If your heart needs to be monitored, your GP or a doctor may arrange for you to have a 24-hour heart monitor fitted.
This is a small portable device that records the rhythm of your heart over a 24-hour period.
What does the test involve?
The monitor will be attached around your waist, with small electrodes placed on your chest. These electrodes record your heart rhythm continuously over 24 hours.
What should I do during the test?
You should continue your normal daily activities while wearing the monitor.
However:
- You will not be able to have a bath or shower while the monitor is fitted
- It is advisable to have a shower on the morning of your appointment before the monitor is attached
After the test
You will need to return the next day at the same time to have the monitor removed.
If you are arranging transport, please make sure you organise this for both appointments.
