An echocardiogram (echo) is a type of ultrasound scan used to look at your heart and nearby blood vessels.
It may be requested by your GP or a healthcare professional at the hospital.
What does the test involve?
You will be asked to remove clothing from the top half of your body and a gown will be provided.
You will then lie on a couch, usually on your left side.
A small probe and gel will be placed on the front and side of your chest. This allows staff to see images of your heart on a monitor. These images are recorded for review and reporting.
Our highly specialist Echo Physiologist team is made up of male and female staff and chaperones are available on request.
How long does it take?
The test usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes.
When will I receive the results?
The recorded images will be reviewed and a written report will be sent to the healthcare professional who requested the test.
